Submission Guidelines

Runestone considers previously unpublished/unscreened works of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, or digital storytelling by undergraduate writers. All submissions should address the theme of the issue in some manner.

You must be a current undergraduate at a two- or four-year institution, or--if unaffiliated with a college--you must be between the ages of 18-22 at the time you send your work. We do not currently consider work by students at Hamline University.

Submit work between April 1 – October 1.

Your work should include a cover letter, in which you should verify that you are an undergraduate and include the name of your college or university, your field of study, and your year (sophomore, junior, etc.). Include the name(s) and genre of the piece(s) you’re submitting, as well as a mailing address, phone number, and an e-mail address.

*You may submit work in more than one genre, but please do not send more than one piece or suite of fiction, one piece or suite of nonfiction, or one selection of five poems per reading cycle. All work must pertain to the theme.

FICTION

In this category, you may submit up to 5,000 words of fiction, including flash pieces of no more than 500 words each--a total of 3 files.

After an initial screening in October and November, the editorial process of considering your work will place in Hamline’s Introduction to Literary Publishing: Runestone course during the fall semester.

Writers will be notified by or around Dec. 1 regarding status of the submission.

Thank you for sending us your work!

We use Submittable to accept and review our submissions.
